A Tooth Fairy Tale found its inspiration under many sublayers: fairy gardens, old books & storytelling, shadow boxes, and another designer’s tale of unique parenting: putting gemstones under his kids’ pillows when they loose teeth, instead of money. Charming indeed. These random ideas melded together into A Tooth Fairy Tale, a shadowbox-like book that tells the story of a tooth fairy on her daily rounds collecting gemstones to put under kids’ pillows.
Also, a totally on-the-nose joke: the book used is a thrifted copy of The Secret Garden. So.. The Secret Garden contains a secret garden within it.
The book was hollowed out with each decorative layer cut by hand.
A TOOTH FAIRY TALE
Mairie Fairy flittered about her garden, enjoying the
cool air the shade trees provided. Bees were humming
happily and even old Robert Rabbit had hopped out
from hiding to enjoy the nice day.
Mairie Fairy loved the earth and all things
that grow, and she loved to make people smile. She was a
tooth fairy, and took great pride in her garden, for it was
the perfect place to grow treasures.
Each night, Mairie Fairy made her rounds across
her end of the countryside, collecting lost teeth from
growing girls and boys. She took great care in planting
the teeth in the good soil of her garden, and was always
pleased each morning to see the lovely gemstones the
teeth grew into.
This particular morning, a little tooth from young
Timmy Thompson had sprouted nicely. Mairie Fairy
smiled, knowing it was one of Timmy’s front teeth and
he’d give a toothless grin when he woke up to find the
gem where he had laid his fallen tooth the night before.
Mairie Fairy plucked young Timmy Thompson’s
tooth from the ground and placed it in her pouch, ready
to make her morning deliveries. She said her goodbyes to
the bees and Robert Rabbit, and flittered out from under
the vines and branches of her little garden.
